I’ve been craving burrito bowls lately, so I have included them in my meal prep series this week. If you’re a meal-prep pro, you’re most likely acquainted with the burrito bowl. They’re typically the first meal that people learn to prep for their meals since they’re so simple and adaptable. Although they’re easy meal prep, I’ve decided to showcase them in this post to help all my meal prep novices or for those who are yet to venture into the realm of meal prep. I’m calling them the simple Burrito Bowl Meal Prep because this will require the least effort. There are no ingredients to be packed either on their own or in the bowl, and nothing will become wet or limp when the bowls are kept in the refrigerator. This is where you begin, and I’ll give you some ideas to customize or take this burrito dish meal preparation to the next level.

SWAPS AND ADD-INS FOR YOUR BURRITO BOWLS

As I’ve mentioned before, The ingredients of this recipe for the “Easiest” Burrito Bowl Meal Prep can be kept in a single container without worry of everything becoming “yucky.” You can make this dish in less than 30 minutes. There is only one ingredient that needs cutting. It’s that simple. Brown rice to make it more nutritious, or even quinoa. Of course, you can alter the proportion of any ingredient to suit your tastes or dietary requirements.

INGREDIENTS

4 cups cooked rice ($0.99)

One lb. ground beef or turkey ($3.99)

taco flavoring* ($0.67)

1.25 cups popcorn kernels of frozen corn ($0.38)

1 15oz. container of black beans ($0.59)

Four oz. cheddar cheese (about 1 cup of shredded) ($1.00)

1 1/3 cup of salsa ($1.30)

Two green onions ($0.13)

INSTRUCTIONS

The rice is cooked first. Then, you can cook the other ingredients while the rice is cooking. Cook the rice according to the instructions on the package. To make about 4 cups of white rice, I recommend using 1.5 cups of rice that is not cooked and 2.5 cups of water. However, this could differ based on the rice you use. So, be sure to verify the directions on the packaging.

When the rice is cooked, put the beef or ground turkey into the skillet and cook on moderate heat until cooked to perfection. Based on the fat in the meat, you may have to add some oil to the pan to prevent the heart from sticking.

When the meat is cooked and cooked to your liking, add the taco seasoning and 1 cup of water. Mix and cook with the spices and meat until the liquid decreases to a saucy consistency (about five minutes). Reduce the heat to a simmer and put your heart to rest.

Cool the corn kernels, rinse and the beans black, shred the cheese, and slice the green onions.

After the rice has been cooked, you can fluff it up with the help of a fork. Divide the rice into four containers. Divide the other six bowl ingredients into the containers (taco meat, corn, beans, salsa, cheese, and green onion).

Cook the bowls for 2 to 3 minutes before eating. This will melt the cheese, then heat the rice and meat until cooked.
